Back-to-Back 2 Back-to-back houses maximise density at the expense of daylight, ventilation and open space. This proposal for a three-storey four-person household attempts to minimize those inherent disadvantages. The L-shaped plan increases the external surface area to get windows closer to the rear of the plan. Placing the stairs at the corner of the L means that window area is not wasted. The middle floor is open but has two distinct living areas, each with has a large corner window. The kitchen/dining area overlooks the outdoor space while the living room has long views along the street as well as across it, lessening the perception of confinement. An openable skylight above the stairwell enhances ventilation.
