Vertical Village I A spatial configuration such as Repeating Crevice offers occupants varying degrees of awareness of other people in the house. This project is a first attempt to apply that notion to other people living in apartments on the same floor. The layout of the apartments is much the same as for the house, the main exception being the swapped positions of the kitchen/dining and living rooms. The first staircase is less of a crevice now and its entrance lobby has two windows. The first in the same position directly ahead when descending the stairs, but is now a glass block panel allowing only the perception of light/dark and perhaps some shadowy movement on the other side. The other window is above the front door and allows a glimpse of the elevator lobby when descending. A light well in the core should further extend this awareness of other people to the floors above and below.
