Walden 8
The Vertical Village I proposal attempted to inject some of the goodness of Ricardo Bofill's Walden 7 into a somewhat more orthodox building. The proposal Stacked Stairs attempted to use a single layout to configure apartments that could have a variable number of bedrooms.
This proposal combines the two by introducing two or more staircases for internal circulation. As before, the triple-height elevator lobby with its concentration of activity is overlooked by kitchen windows. The open lobby staircases censure cross ventilation to all rooms of all apartment to minimize the need for mechanical ventilation and artificial illumination.
Walden 8 and Walden 9 are both proposals for a 'detached apartment' with fewer party walls and a reduced awareness of the ones there are.
