Habitable Wall

This apartment has no access corridor since private elevators open directly into the apartment hallways. The 15% internal circulation space accesses all spaces from two directions and gives occupants the choice of whether to have company or not. This has advantages for situations when the living room is being used exclusively by a specific person or their visitors. The space that was the communal circulation space has now become shared circulation space with living areas on one side and private areas on the other.

The ground floor entrance level is the only space common to all occupants of the building. Its design and features are a separate problem.

This layout can be repeated horizontally and vertically to produce a building the shape of a thin slab. Its height will ultimately be limited by wind load but adding corners or curves will allow this habitable wall to be higher than otherwise possible.
